Well arrived in the USA

The first three winners of our "The American Dream Scholarships," Helena, Amelie, and Maja, beat hundreds of applicants and flew to the USA in the summer of 2022 to start their high school year.

Meanwhile, we've already received some photos and stories from our scholarship recipients' first days in the USA. Helena went to Rio Rancho in New Mexico, where she received a warm welcome from her host family.

Helena received a warm welcome from her American host family in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

She rides to and from school on the typical yellow American school bus and her free time activities are also 100 % in line with her American dream. Helena has already attended an American Football game, became part of her high school's cheerleading team, and is having a great time with her American friends.

High school life in the USA

For Helena, life in the USA is everything she imagined it would be.

Amelie sent us pictures from the airport in Arkansas where her young host mother was waiting for her, full of anticipation with a self-painted welcome sign and funny USA headdress. What a welcome!

Amelie was welcomed to Arkansas in a creative way!

The two had already met by phone before Amelie's departure and got along great from the start. The fact that they have a lot in common is definitely a big advantage for Amelie's start in the USA!

This is what a classroom looks like at Amelie's high school.

After her arrival, Amelie seems to have barely taken a break, as the next pictures already showed her high school classroom and impressions of a Hawaii-themed party with her new American friends.

Shortly before she departed for Ohio, scholarship winner Maja made it into a big German newspaper, telling editor Daniel Diekhans about her American dream, the preparatory seminar for The American Dream scholarships, and her plans for her stay in the USA.

Article about Maja in a big German newspaper

In July, Maja gave an interview for a German newspaper. Now she goes to high school in Ohio.

Know a little German? Then check out the whole article here. Shortly after the interview, Maja learned that an American host family had been found for her in the US state of Ohio in the Midwest of the USA, where she, meanwhile, has arrived well.

Well arrived and straight onto the football field! But what Maja enjoys most are the everyday things, such as shopping with the whole family.

Despite delayed flights and a decent jet lag, Maja was able to enjoy her time in Ohio right from the start. She attends American Football games with her host family, was already a member of the soccer team before high school even started, and enthusiastically participates in unusual school subjects such as "Ceramics & Sculptures" or "Jewelry Studio" every day. This is not the only reason why starting off at the new school was so easy for her.
